About
Founded 2002 by Antonino and Armida Vivera. Started with an inheritance of vines; family traveled each autumn from Catania to harvest in Corleone. Passion for winemaking grew; additional vineyards purchased in Chiaramonte Gulfi and on Mount Etna in 2002. Contrada Martinella estate sits at the mouth of Valle Galfina on Etna’s northeast shoulder — the precise point where the north and east slopes diverge. District has been an important thoroughfare between upper and lower mountain since the Middle Ages. 12 hectares with a modern gravity-operated winery. Gentle winery practices complement fruit from the sunny intersection of rocky north slope and fertile eastern flank. Winemaker: Loredana Vivera. All wine grapes arrive at Martinella in the fall. Vine training: alberello and cordon. Produces 120,000 bottles annually. Visits by request: vineyard tour, winery tour, wine tasting, lunch, dinner. Small (<15) and large (15+) groups. Event space, Wi-Fi, family friendly. Languages: Italian, English, French. Wines to try: Salisire Contrada Martinella Etna Bianco, Rosato di Martinella Etna Rosato, Martinella Etna Rosso.
