About

Founded 2007 by Francesco, Gianni, and Giusy Calcagno. After a century of trading wine in bulk, the family used consulting wineries from 2007 to help launch the Calcagno label, opening their own cantina in Passopisciaro in time for the 2016 harvest. The family conducted an aging experiment, delivering cases of wine to the INGV observatory at 2,813 meters AMSL and holding a public side-by-side tasting two years later against wines aged at 750 meters AMSL within the DOC zone; wines aged near the central crater proved fresher. 6 hectares across Contrade Arcuria and Feudo di Mezzo; vine training: alberello and cordon. Produces 25,000 bottles annually. Visits by request: vineyard tour, wine tasting. Small groups (<15). Family and pet friendly. Languages: Italian.
