About

Founded 1870. The Grasso family has made wine in Contrada Santo Spirito on the north slope for nearly two centuries. At the height of the company’s prowess they owned the two largest palmenti on the mountain and a sprawling landscape of vineyards. Between the two world wars, a family member traveled to the United States and returned with the idea to build a service station and wine shop modeled on American soda fountains. The Etna Wine enoteca still operates today across from the historic port of Riposto, offering bottled wines and wine in sfuso (bring your own bottle). The old palmento and winery are along the Circumetnea train track west of Passopisciaro, offering overnight accommodations, camping, a restaurant, and one of the largest wood wine vats in the world.
