Welcome to Wine of Etna

There are wine regions, and then there’s Etna. An active volcano rising out of the Mediterranean, its slopes home to some of the oldest, most gnarly vines in the world, making wines that taste like nowhere else on earth. We’re obsessed with it — and if you’re here, we suspect you might be too.

This site is our attempt to build the most useful, interesting and honest resource about Etna wine on the internet. Whether you’re just discovering Nerello Mascalese for the first time, or you’re deep in a debate about contrada differences, there’s something here for you.

The story of Etna — We dig into the history (6,000 years of winemaking, Greek settlers, the great palmento era), the extraordinary terroir (a mountain that never stops changing), and the grapes — Nerello Mascalese, Carricante, Nerello Cappuccio and more — that make these wines so singular.

The winemakers — We’ve spent time with the people making wine on this mountain, from pioneers like Frank Cornelissen and Marco de Grazia to newer voices like Stef Yim of Sciara and Eduardo Torres Acosta, who crossed the Atlantic from the Canary Islands chasing the volcanic connection. Their stories, in their own words, are the heart of this site.

The blog — Longer reads, winemaker interviews, and pieces from writers who care deeply about this region and the wider world of natural and artisan wine.

Eating and more — Food and wine belong together, and Etna’s table is as extraordinary as its cellar. We’re building out a resources section with recommendations on where to eat, stay and explore — watch this space.

And yes, we also sell wines — a carefully chosen selection from the producers we believe in. But the shop is the cherry on top. The real reason we built this is the same reason you’re reading it: Etna gets under your skin.

Pull up a glass. Explore.
