Founded by Rosario Licciardello and his wife Santina Cipolla; the family had deep winemaking roots — their grandfather was a capu at one of the local palmenti. By the 1990s the family had stopped making wine, and in 2001 Rosario began replanting and reorganizing the family vines in the high valley behind Monte Gorna, a lateral volcanic crater. Varieties planted include Carricante, Catarratto, Nerello Mascalese, and Nerello Cappuccio, in fertile volcanic sands surrounded by a pine forest, ginestra, olive and fruit trees, and wildflowers.
