Founded by Silvia Maestrelli, who had been managing her family’s Tuscan estate Villa Petriolo when she was offered a glass of Etna Rosso; she and her business partner flew to Catania and drove up the mountain, then spent months combining more than a dozen small vineyards with multiple owners into a single property in the heart of Rovittello on the Circumetnea line. The first wine — Il Musmeci Etna Rosso, named for the previous owner — was made from the oldest vines on the property. The estate has been converted from masseria to boutique locanda.
