About
Founded 2007 by Silvia Maestrelli, who had been managing her family’s Tuscan estate Villa Petriolo when she was offered a glass of Etna Rosso. She and her business partner flew to Catania and drove up the mountain, then spent months combining more than a dozen small vineyards with multiple owners into a single property in the heart of Rovittello on the Circumetnea line. First wine — Il Musmeci Etna Rosso, named for the previous owner — made that same year from the oldest vines on the property. Estate converted from masseria to boutique locanda. Cellar: cool anaerobic fermentations; MLF and aging in stainless steel, tonneaux, or large French oak casks. Smaller Rovittello parcels now being isolated for field-specific wines. 15 hectares across five contrade: Manzudda, Caselle, Rinazzo, Volpare, and Moscamento. Vine training: alberello. Produces 70,000 bottles annually. Visits seven days a week: vineyard tour, winery tour, palmento tour, wine tasting, lunch, dinner. Small (<15) and large (15+) groups. Event space, Wi-Fi, overnight accommodations, family friendly. Languages: Italian, Dutch, English, French, German. Wines to try: A' Puddara Etna Bianco, Erse Etna Rosso, Laeneo Nerello Cappuccio, Il Musmeci Etna Rosso Riserva.
