Winemaker Carlo Ferrini, after decades working in Sicily, climbed Etna and found a small vineyard on the north slope, from which he bottled the first Nerello Mascalese under the Giodo label. Carlo and daughter Bianca also make Brunello di Montalcino under the Giodo label in Tuscany. The low-yielding alberello vines are approximately 80 years old.
