The Scammacca family has made wine on Mount Etna for generations, with Michele Scammacca serving as winemaker, and the modern estate taking a major step forward in 1969 when broad terraces of new vines were planted above Santa Venerina. By 1989 the estate had developed a bottle-fermented Nerello in both bianco and rosato styles, and two decades later the Etna DOC added the Etna Spumante category based on the estate’s work. The property operates as Tenuta San Michele and includes an agriturismo with views of the Valle del Bove and the southeast slope.
