About
Enrico and Giulia Monteleone (father and daughter) with winemaker Benedetto Alessandro. Vineyards in one of the few places on Etna’s north slope that lava has not touched in millennia — alluvial fields below the medieval town of Castiglione di Sicilia. Nerello and Alicante grown beside the ruins of a Byzantine church, La Cuba. Two Etna Rossos, one carrying the name of the church, recently joined by a prephylloxera Nerello from Contrada Pontale Palino below Solicchiata, and a Carricante from the steep slopes of Sant’Alfio high on the volcano’s eastern skirt. Wines to try: La Cuba Etna Rosso, Etna Rosso, Carricante Etna Bianco.
