Francesco Cambria bought old hazelnut orchards (nucidde) from half a dozen families in 1961, immediately clearing the trees and preparing the soil for grapevines; for guidance the family consulted Tuscan winemaker Roberto Cipresso and Leonardo Valenti, professor of Agriculture at the University of Milan. Along with Nerello and Carricante, the family planted Cabernet, Merlot, Viognier, Inzolia, Syrah, and Mondeuse. Located between Passopisciaro and the Alcantara River, the estate offers more than a dozen blends and monovarietal bottlings of indigenous and international varieties.
