Founded by Peppina and Francesco Modica in Contrada Sciara Nuova, coinciding with the early establishment of the Etna DOC. Led today by Salvatore Modica, the estate’s flagship Nerello is named Nonno Ciccio after Salvatore’s grandfather and co-founder of the farm. Salvatore ferments two reds in an open lava-stone vat — one of the last estates on the mountain to do so legally.
