About

Founded 2002. Around Y2K, the Grasso family moved from their farm in Dagala del Re on Mount Etna’s fertile eastern flank to a sunnier farm in Contrada Calderara. The transition required years of clearing brambles, salvaging the old house, exposing and retraining vines, and pruning olive and fruit trees. When the area was finally clear, the land revealed itself as almost entirely rock — one of the most coveted viticultural areas on the mountain. Mariarita Grasso leads the estate; Filippo also involved. Also: +39 349-750-5600 (Filippo). Family produces a portfolio based on Etna varieties and grows approximately 90% of their own food. 6 hectares in Contrada Calderara; vine training: alberello in cordon and cordon. Produces 40,000 bottles annually. Visits by request: vineyard tour, winery tour, wine tasting. Small groups (<15). Wi-Fi, family and pet friendly. Languages: Italian, English. Wines to try: Carrico 68.8 Bianco, Mari di Ripiddu Etna Bianco, Capu Chiurma di Ripiddu Etna Rosso, Ripiddu DOC Etna Rosso.
