About
Founded 2005. Named after the Alcantara River, which borders the estate. Vineyards span a broad plateau along the Etna DOC’s northernmost border. In the early twentieth century, the farm was part of one of the largest properties between Randazzo and Passopisciaro; some of those original vines remain in production. During WWII, the farm was used as a campsite for a military hospital. Forty years later, many old alberelli were grubbed up and burned; remaining vines reorganized into rows. Much of the vineyard soil is composed of ripiddu — fist-size basalt stones from an eruption of the Ellittico volcano.
