IDDA

IDDA is a partnership between the Gaja family of Piedmont and Alberto Graci, one of the best-known growers on Etna’s north slope. The two families met in 2015, went into business together at the end of 2016 and made their first red in 2017. The vineyards, though, are on the hot, dry south-west side of the mountain: old Nerello Mascalese and Carricante around Biancavilla, planted in 1975 at roughly 600 to 800 metres, and newer plantings near Belpasso, where the winery now stands. Carricante is the main focus. The name is Sicilian for “she”, which is how many locals refer to Etna.
