About
Founded 1850. Paolo Vassallo’s old palazzo stands above all other structures on this part of the mountain. Built at the beginning of the twentieth century, the estate had produced enormous quantities of wine in the basement palmento for fifty years before the palazzo was commandeered as a military outpost and hospital during World War II. When reopened after decades of neglect, medical gear was found throughout. Paolo and his brother Corrado Vassallo now operate the palazzo-palmento as a boutique hotel. A family museum houses ancient artifacts discovered on the estate. Nerello Cappuccio, previously used only in field blends, is now grown and vinified separately alongside Nerello Mascalese. Carricante, rare at this elevation, has young vines thriving on the property. 4.5 hectares in Contrada Feudo Sant’Anastasia; vine training: cordon. Produces 10,000 bottles annually.
