About
Founded 1880; relaunched 2008 by Margherita Platania. The Platania family has made wine at this Contrada Cavaliere site since 1880. Production lulled during the twentieth century; Margherita relaunched in 2008, restoring the ancient palmento and dispensa. During restoration, grapes were sold to the local winemaking community; wine production returned to the estate eight years later. The winery uses large wood vats, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, fine-grain botte, a sorting table, and peristaltic pumps. 15 hectares in Contrada Cavaliere; vine training: alberello and cordon. Produces 40,000 bottles annually. Visits by request: vineyard tour, winery tour, palmento tour, wine tasting. Small (<15) and large (15+) groups welcome. Family friendly. Languages: Italian, English. Wines to try: Millemetri Etna Bianco, Don Blasco Etna Rosso, Millemetri Etna Rosso.
