Calogero Statella spent over a decade as winemaker at Etna pioneer Terre Nere before he and his wife Rita bought their own first vineyard, in Contrada Pettinociarelle, in 2016 — naming the estate for his grandparents, who had farmed the same land for oil and wine long before it was a business. A second vineyard, in Contrada Pignatuni, followed in 2018.
