In 2002 Antonio Destro — previously in the marble business for two decades — discovered a partially abandoned winery and amphitheater of terraces while foraging for mushrooms on the northern flank in Montelaguardia, purchasing the vineyards and old palmento that year. In 2003 he planted 45,000 vines, of which rabbits ate 7,000. The estate focuses on indigenous cultivars and Etna DOC blends, including a line of classic method sparkling wines from Nerello Mascalese.
