Vines had been in continuous production for 150 years; French enologist Louis Fabre chose this site beside the 1536 lava flow to expand the Ducea di Nelson’s plantings, and the last harvest was 2007. In the first week of July 2008, hailstones bombarded the vineyard, breaking the vines and destroying the vintage; combined with the international economic crisis, production came to a full stop. The estate is built around an old Grenache Noir vineyard and a palmento where German soldiers fired pistols into chestnut botti during WWII.
