About

Founded 1968. Vines had been in continuous production for 150 years; French enologist Louis Fabre chose this site beside the 1536 lava flow to expand the Ducea di Nelson’s plantings. Last harvest was 2007. In the first week of July 2008, softball- and baseball-size hailstones bombarded the vineyard, breaking the vines and destroying the vintage. Combined with the international economic crisis, production came to a full stop. No wines produced since 2008 (0 bottles). Estate built around an old Grenache Noir vineyard that floods under rainwater and snowmelt each spring, and an old palmento where German soldiers fired pistols into chestnut botti during WWII. The family now offers wildlife sanctuary and hiking experiences on the estate. Older bottles remain in the market and are well worth finding. 14 hectares in Contrada Gurrida; vine training: cordon. Occasional events. Services: wildlife sanctuary, hiking. Wines to try (from existing stock): Triumph Grenache Noir blend, Victory Grenache Noir blend.
